Sun and Open Source

Gilles Gravier is the Chief Open Source Ambassador EMEA of Sun Microsystems.He is the liaison between Sun's Chief Open Source office - which oversees and drives the companies strategic move to open source all of Sun's software products and delivers the strategy and vision on the use of Open Source - and the various groups developing open source inside Sun.

In his presentation, Gilles will show how Open Source has changed Sun's business model and how the acquisition of MySQL AB makes sense from Sun's point of view. He will also give an outlook on future trends in the Open Source market.

After more than 13 years at Sun, Gilles Gravier is responsible for driving the relationships between the various European, Middle Eastern and African open source communities and Sun Microsystems. Internally, he is also the liaison between Sun's Chief Open Source office, and the various groups developing open source inside Sun. He has also been active in various countries around digital rights management, privacy issues and open standards implementations.

Prior to this role, Gilles has held positions ranging from consultant to market development manager for security with an international focus for the past 10 years. Recently, Gilles was responsible for launching a program dedicated to startups in France and Germany.
